I’m Not Someone Who Has a Lot of Seasonal Decorations, and I’m Okay With That

Cooler air, crisp leaves, flannel blankets, pumpkins, apple cider donuts, candles flickering in your home… Everything about fall is beautiful, warm, and cozy. It’s my favorite time of the year.

If you’re like me, your social media feeds are full of posts and reels of decorating and fall decor, and before we know it winter and holiday decor. Decoration ideas for the front of the house, the kitchen, throughout the house, etc… I absolutely love seeing all of the beautiful ideas and the insane amount of creativity. Walking through the aisles now of spooky Halloween decor and lovely warm fall decor at the stores brings me so much giddiness and joy…

Sometimes I wish I could completely transform every room of my house during the holiday months, especially now that we live in Florida. We don’t have seasons like we did when we lived in the Midwest, so our home is our special place to relish in the joy of the changing seasons and holidays.

That being said, it’s pretty time consuming and expensive to decorate as much as what we may see in some of the things on social media. Right now in my life, if I’m going to spend money on home decor, I would rather it be on things we can enjoy all year and all the time. And not only that, all of the extra stuff and decorations takes up so much space… Where do people put all of it??

In this season of my life, with two young kids (a newborn and a toddler running around!), and as someone who prefers a simpler and more minimal home, I’m not someone who has a lot of extra seasonal and holiday decorations, and I’m okay with that. (:

I’ve worked hard to make our home a cozy space that works for our family, a place that we love waking up and coming home to. For me, it’s too time consuming to completely change and add so many new things as the seasons come and go. Parents know that you blink and a month has gone by! When it comes to decorating for the seasons, I’ve found it much, much easier to just add a few little touches or swap out a couple things here and there. I’ll swap out the faux flowers in the vase on the kitchen counter. I’ve replaced my white daisies with sunflowers for the fall months. I’ll switch out the few decorative candles around the house for seasonal candles and lately I’ve added a few cute little pumpkins here and there. I’ll add a seasonal wreath to the front door, and then maybe a couple small things outside. When the kids get older they may want some more fun little decorations. But for now, our house remains mostly the same.

Simple, minimal, inexpensive, and easy little touches around the house. (:

That’s our home! What is yours like? Are you someone who loves to go all out with seasonal decorations? Someone who just likes a few little things like me? Or someone who really doesn’t want anything different? Your home should be a place that brings you joy. A place that isn’t a cause of more stress and chaos. A place that you love… So whatever you prefer, it’s perfect for you and your family!

Thanks for reading, and happy holidays! Enjoy the upcoming beautiful fall season this year!

Lots of love,

Anna
